All soaps are made by combining oils and with a base, such as lye. Oil and lye react in a chemical process known as saponification, which yields soap and glycerin. Handcrafted soaps, like ours, are typically made by either a cold process (no heat is added during saponification) or a hot process (the mixture is cooked during saponification). Cold-processed soaps are more opaque and have a creamy smooth feeling. One of the biggest advantages of cold-processed soaps over industrial made soaps is the glycerin that forms during sapomification is left in the soap, where it can act as a natural moisturizer.

We hand-craft our soaps using a slab mold that produces 40 bars. This 11lb slab of soap is then cut down into individual bars. The side that looks a little different is the outside of the original slab.
We like to think about it like bread crust. It’s the same quality soap, so why cut it off.

That is the date your soap was made.
Cold-processed soaps need to cure for best results. An uncured bar will melt away with after a handful of uses and the lather won’t be optimal, while a cured bar last longer and lathers better.
We cure all of our soaps for a minimum of 30 days, which results in a rich foamy lather. The poured on date lets you know just how long your bar has cured.

Our soaps are fully cured and ready for your enjoyment. If you buy a few extra bars, we recommend storing them in a cool, dry place until you are ready to use them. Once you’ve used your soap, treat it like any other bar of soap. Don’t let it disintegrate in a puddle of water and don’t drop the soap. Or do, we don’t mind the view.
